MICROBLADING FACTS

DIRECTLY CITED FROM THE SOCIETY OF PERMANENT COSMETIC PROFESSIONALS WEBSITE (SPCP.ORG)
IS IT TATTOOING?
With the sudden popularity and media attention to the term microblading, many are led to believe microblading is not a tattoo process. Permanent cosmetics, micropigmentation, dermal implantation, microblading/microstroking, eyebrow embroidery, and long-time/long-lasting makeup, are all different names for the same procedure – cosmetic tattooing. Any time color is placed into the skin with any device, it is a tattoo process as defined by many well informed regulators, the medical community, and dictionary sources. Denying this process is a tattoo can be problematic for those who would, for religious or other personal reasons, normally refuse to have a tattoo.

IS A BLADE BEING USED TO PERFORM THE MICROBLADING TATTOO PROCEDURE?
Microblading is performed with a grouping or configuration of needles affixed to a handle to manually create lines that resemble eyebrow hairs. Manual methods of tattooing have been used through the ages, and the tools have gone through changes over time from pre-historic sharpened stones to the hand tool devices currently being used. An actual scalpel or cutting-type blade should not be used under any circumstances as these are considered medical devices and cannot legitimately be used for this process. Any hand tool device (i.e., both handle and attached needles) used for microblading should be pre-sterilized and fully disposable.

IS IT SEMI-PERMANENT?
Some are promoting microblading or eyebrow embroidery as a semi-permanent process; and that the color only reaches the epidermal (outer) layer of the skin. A careful review of basic skin anatomy and physiology would reveal this is not true. By definition and tattoo industry standards, color is tattooed/implanted into the dermis of the skin. If pigment particles do not reach the dermis, they will disappear during the healing phase of the skin, during normal regeneration of cells at the epidermal level. Pigments do fade in the skin over time, but that does not make the process semi-permanent. It is impossible to predict how much pigment will fade away and how long it will take to do so with any measure of consistency or reliability.

WHY DOES MICROBLADING NOT LAST AS LONG AS OTHER EYEBROW TATTOOING TECHNIQUES?
This is simply because a much smaller amount of pigment is inserted (tattooed) into the skin as compared to fully or solidly filled eyebrow tattoos.

IS THERE LESS TRAINING TO LEARN MICROBLADING AS COMPARED TO LEARNING PERMANENT COSMETICS?
No; if someone is new to the industry and does not already have a minimum of 100 hours of training in permanent cosmetics, they need to have a similar amount of training in microblading, even if it is for just that one type of procedure. There are many areas of study when learning these techniques, which include facial morphology and bone structure, brow shaping and design, color analysis, color theory, proper handling of equipment, prevention of cross-contamination, as well as practice work and the opportunity to observe procedures before actually performing them under supervision. Anyone interested in pursuing training in cosmetic tattooing, including microblading, should first check with state and county regulating agencies. This would also include verifying the qualifications of any trainer, in addition to checking with regulatory agencies for trainer compliance with local health, safety, or permit requirements if the trainer is travelling from another state or country to offer training.

WILL MICROBLADING WORK FOR ME?

  • If you have extremely oily skin, microblading may NOT work well for you. Ashley is happy to do it for you as long as you have a realistic expectation. The constant production of oil will cause the hair strokes to heal diffused with a softer look. Your end result may appear more powdered/solid than precise hair strokes. You may require more frequent touch ups, sooner than the average of 1 year.
  • If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment will fade sooner
  • If you allow excessive sun exposure, your pigment will fade sooner (use sunscreen SPF 30 or higher)
  • If you are iron defiant or anemic, your pigment will fade sooner and bleeding and or bruising may occur during and or after the procedure
  • Unhealthy compromised skin due to health issues, medications and over use of anti-aging, acne skincare, etc are all factors in the outcome of your results. To keep your hair strokes looking good, a refresher appointment is recommend every 1-3 years as results vary for each individual
  • Clients with darker skin (Indian, African American, Filipino, etc.), please note, the hair strokes will not appear as defined or as dark in color due to the skin color being naturally darker. You may require a touch up sooner than 1 year.
  • Healed results will vary for each individual client. NO guarantee can be made and additional sessions (at a minimum charge) may be required to obtain optimal results. Although we give our best efforts to provide you with quality service, many factors can result in a less than desired outcome as each client will heal differently

THE APPOINTMENT

BEFORE TREATMENT
A full in depth consultation is carried out at the time of your procedure appointment, discussing your skin suitability and realistic exceptions. You will need to complete paperwork and provide your drivers license/state ID (please arrive 10 minutes early to complete paperwork). All colors and shapes are customized to each person. A dark crayon pencil will be used to mark ruler measurements. The eyebrow shape will be drawn to ensure this is your desired shape, no surprises! However, it will seem like a surprise when you view the mirror as the pencil is extremely bold (microblading is done inside the drawn lines). Ashley will give guideline recommendations based upon your eye shape and desired goals. Your photo will be taken prior, during and after. Topical anesthetic cream will be applied to start the numbing process to ensure you are comfortable. The initial numbing process may be a bit uncomfortable and feel like threading/tweezing.

If Ashley feels you are not ready and cannot reach a reasonable decision about your eyebrow shape, Ashley reserves the right to cancel your appointment. This is in your best interest and should be a careful decision you are ready for as it is a permanent application. You will be able to approve the color before pigment is placed. Please note, the color appears about 30% darker prior to the procedure and will be about 25-30% darker immediately after/few days to follow. If Ashley feels uncomfortable with a certain style of brows you desire, she reserves the right to deny services and your deposit will be forfeited due to time reserved.

DURING TREATMENT
A topical anesthetic will be re-applied during the procedure keeping you comfortable. Sterilized equipment will be used (one time use equipment). There will be moments of waiting while anesthetic sets in and pigment absorbs. You are welcome to bring headphones, a book, your phone, or just enjoy the quiet for a little nap! The process will last approximately 90 minutes but may take a bit longer depending upon the drawing process. The drawing process is the longest part of the procedure as the shape needs to be exact to YOUR desired look.

AFTER TREATMENT
When the treatment is finished, some after care cream will be applied. You will be advised on post-care and will be provided with post-care instructions. The treatment area may feel sensitive. The skin may appear yellow under the brow area. This is due to the ink on top of the skin but will subside. You may also notice white "rings" around the brow, this is due to the anesthetic and will subside as well.

FOLLOW UP TREATMENT
It is important to book your 8 week follow up (second part of the procedure) to ensure perfecting results. This appointment cannot be any sooner than 8 weeks from the initial appointment.

PLEASE NOTE:
  • Prices are subject to change
  • A microblading appointment may not be scheduled until the pre-care and post-care instructions are read
  • Clients that have had microblading performed by another technician will still be charged the full price
  • Children under 18 years of age are not allowed in the procedure rooms per the Indiana Department of Health.
  • Procedure rooms are small. One extra guest is allowed in the room (must be 18 or older).
  • Children are not to be left unattended in the lobby and must be accompanied by adult supervision.

CREDENTIALS

Ashley is currently the only artist certified in microblading at ReNeu Beauty. After extensive research in microblading training, she chose a course in Chicago, IL where the instructors are Board Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professionals and State Board Certified Instructors by the State Board of Education. Instructors had a minimum of 5 years of experience in the cosmetic tattoo industry. The facility was registered with the State Health Department as a tattoo establishment (not cosmetology).

Ashley became certified after completion of the 100 hour class in January 2017. The 100 hour certification meets the requirement of the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP). This in depth 100 hour certification sets Ashley apart from other microblading artists. ReNeu Beauty is insured and registered with the Health Department as a tattoo establishment and is compliant with annual inspections per Indiana law.

Aside from Microblading, Ashley is a Licensed Esthetician (obtained in 2008) and has previously worked for two Dermatologists over a period of 3 years. She is also an established makeup artist (2011).
